don't know why this memory hit me at the same time I ran in to this forum, and decided it needed a thread, and this memory will be a good place to start.
the year is 1975, I'm working on my '67 mustang, no glory here, just a six banger, but it needed a new thermostat. so I'm under the car port, hood up, taking the radiator clamps off, and I'm going to replace the hose as well as the thermostat. I get the hose off, the thermostat housing off and a new thermostat installed, and go to attach the new hoses and I want to feed the clamps on first, and I go to pick them up off of the air cleaner where I normally would place items, but they weren't there!!! WTF? I look all over the inner fender ledges, down around the manifold, plug wires, get down under the car and look all over and up and around, no clamps. the old hose is laying off to the side, no clamps on it. WTF? I look all over again, nothing!! I head to the auto parts store and lucky for me it's only about a 6 block walk, get two new radiator clamps, walk back home, go to put the new clamp on, and there between the hood latch and the radiator are the two radiator clamps. Now seriously, WTF? I know I looked all over that engine compartment, and there's no way I could have missed those clamps, not after all the time I spent looking. still puzzles me to this day....but after that day guess what? I had 2 spare radiator clamps...LOL
